I love everything about this. Bey saying “thot.” Bey saying “Onika.” Nicki calling out MJ’s doctor. Nicki starting to feel the flow when she speeds up and spits about “eat-the-cookie-face,” a perfect hat tip to Jay’s “Eat the cake, Anna Mae” line from “Drunk in Love.” Bey FINALLY addressing the elevator incident. Two strong talented black women declaring that they’re royalty and no one can disagree. Today is a great day.
So yes, that is “Bound 2” by Kanye, but with beefed up bass and drums. And I am LOVING this remix. Actually, I’m not sure if this counts as a remix because this version was re-recorded with a different singer to replace the Charlie WIlson vocals. Whatever, I love it. The video is fun and is pretty much a visual depiction of what I want my summer to be. Unfortunately, it’s not on Spotify so I’m putting it here so I remember it exists.
(I’m compiling my Summer Jamz 2014 playlist today, so expect more #jotd’s. Also taking suggestions.)
So Jay R Neutron is already a genius (his Nicki Minaj remixes are fab), but now he takes it to a whole new level. Buzzworthy calls it the “Bey remix to end all Bey remixes” and that’s not that far off. He didn’t just insert his brilliance into one or two songs, he mixed the whole gahtdamn album with his 90’s-esque beats.
He mixes the new Bey album with some of her older stuf, including “Run The World (Girls)” and “Standing on the Sun” (an unreleased teaser from the 2013 H&M campaign). Honestly, I think the Drake verse from “Mine” (at 38:58) sounds better here than in the original.
Thanks to my lovely friend Cait for the heads up on this amazingness.
