“How would you feel if this were your daughter/mother/sister?”
I hate this question. In conversations about sexism, this often comes up as a way to relate to women. The people who ask it are very well-intentioned, but the fact is, a woman shouldn’t have to be related to you (aka she shouldn’t have to be connected to a man) to be respected. While this method of helping men understand sexist practices has its heart in the right place, it is still misogynistic. Women should be respected because they are people. The end.
